Biography:
Jayma Mays was born on July 16, 1979 at Bristol Memorial Hospital.
Her birth was rocky, as Paulette did not realize that her water broke,
and insisted on seeing her doctor, so the drive turned into an hour and
fifteen minutes. Two hours later, Jayma was born, and the family considers
it a miracle, as James discovered they had two flat tires after stepping outside.

As a young girl, Jayma Suzette Mays reminded everyone of the little orphan, Annie,
and like Annie, would dance and sing about. Annie was her favorite musical
as a young child, and thus blossomed her love for acting.
Jayma always had a passion for acting, and wore costumes every day for fun.
She tried out for the musical at Bristol Theater, but did not make the part.

Jayma's original name happens to be Jamia, but she had it
changed to Jama after many people had mispronounced it.
Jama didn't cut it either, and eventually she
came up with Jayma; all these names deriving from her father's name, James.
Her favorite subject in school was Math, though many websites post that she
had an addiction to it, and one of her college professors noted that
she took advanced mathematic classes for fun.

Jayma's first introduction to acting and drama was when her
forensics teacher Debbie Raines helped her by practicing oral
interpretation and drama roles. Debbie was the one who pushed Jayma to broaden
her scopes, and head for the big time, and trying to get her to
understand there was more than the town they were living in for her.
Debbie, and everyone else, always noticed Jayma was different,
and this is what makes her such a star.

Jayma attended Southwest Virginia Community College until getting
her Associated Degree. At SVCC, she played the lead role in "The Sweet Bye and Bye",
where Jayma was given the chance to really explore the career of acting.
After acquiring her degree she moved to Virginia Tech for a year, and then
to Radford University for a year and a half, graduating with a Performing
Arts Degree in 2000, and then straight from there getting to California
where she got into internships until her break into movies,
Mall Cop being the biggest, and television.
