Biography:
Kara Tointon was born on August 5, 1983 in Essex, England, but she spent her growing up years in Southend. She
stands 5’5” tall, and has undergone professional training in dance, specializing in Ballet, Aerobics,
Choreography, Jazz, and Tap. During her spare time Kara Tointon does Cabaret Singing, as well as painting,
swimming, shopping and hanging out with her family and friends.

Her career as an actress began in 1994 when she was cast as an extra in the popular British soap opera
EastEnders. She also appeared in a pantomime adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In 2004, Kara
Tointon joined the cast of Mile High and reprised her Dream Team role as Gina Moliano. She stayed on the show
until May 2005, when she was cast once again in EastEnders, and this time in a major role as Dawn Swann. She
auditioned for the role together with co-stars Tiana Benjamin, Matt DiAngelo, Keliie Shirley, and Charlie
Clements.

Aside from EastEnders, Kara Tointon also took part in movies, by appearing in films such as Just My Luck and
The Football Factory. Kara Tointon recently joined and won the reality dance competition Strictly Come Dancing,
together with partner Mark Ramprakash. She however will be leaving the EastEnders by Summer 2009 due to the
expiration of her contract.
Kara Tointon was once romantically involved with former Busted frontman James Bourne. She was also linked with
former EastEnders star James Alexandrou, but now they remain close friends. She is at present dating another
former EastEnders co-star Joe Swash, who used to play the role of Mickey Miller, Dawn’s brother on the show.
